John Hartig is an accomplished Great Lakes scientist turned nonfiction author who has written eight books and writes a monthly column called a Great Lakes Moment for Detroit Public Television's Great Lakes Now. Questioning how science fits into public decision-making for the Great Lakes and questioning how he can personally make a difference in helping restore and protect the Great Lakes, his life journey has led him to become an award-winning, nonfiction writer whose goal is to inspire a stewardship ethic in urban areas because that is where 80% of all U.S. and Canadian citizens now live.
